(Rogers Cup Tennis)  In an all-Canadian showdown, Peter Polansky beat Vasek Pospisil in straight sets yesterday at the Rogers Open and advanced to a second round match-up with Roger Federer. Milos Raonic will play his first match tomorrow. On the Women’s side Eugenie Bouchard is in action today against Donna Vekic of Croatia.

(Hockey)  Russia held on for a 3-2 win over Canada yesterday to wrap-up preliminary round play at the Sochi Hockey Open. Canada plays Metallurg Magnitogorsk for third place on Wednesday. The tournament is being used as an evaluation process for next year’s Olympics in South Korea.

(Track and Field)  Canada’s Aaron Brown was disqualified from the men’s 200-metre event at the track and field world championships yesterday due to a lane infringement. Athletics Canada filed a formal protest, but it was later denied.
