Kapuskasing Resident Becomes GNMHL’s New Commissioner

The new head of operations for the Great North Midget Hockey League will be a familiar face.

Kapuskasing Flyers Midget AAA Team President Darren Potvin has stepped down from his role with the team as of Monday afternoon to accept the position of commissioner with the GNMHL.

Potvin served for eight years with the Flyers, beginning his journey as their general manager at only 21 before working up to president.

He says his aim with the new role is to fix some issues that have plagued hockey in Northern Ontario.

The GNMHL was forced to find a replacement commissioner following the resignation of Bob MacLean just under a week ago.

Potvin began officially as the commissioner for the 2017/18 season as of Tuesday morning, a year that will see the GNMHL expanded to nine teams.
