(MLB)  The Chicago White Sox came back from a 6-0 deficit to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 last night. Josh Donaldson, Russell Martin and Justin Smoak homered for Toronto in the loss. Earlier in the day the Jays dealt Francisco Liriano and cash to Houston for outfielders Nori Aoki and Teoscar Hernandez and reliever Joe Smith was traded to Cleveland for two minor leaguers.

Other moves on trade deadline day saw the LA Dodgers acquire Yu Darvish from the Texas Rangers for three prospects. Los Angeles also acquired former All-Star reliever Tony Watson from Pittsburgh for a pair of minor leaguers , and the New York Yankees bolstered their rotation by getting Sonny Gray from Oakland for three minor leaguers.

(Tennis)  Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu advanced to the second round at the Citi Open yesterday, defeating Italy’s Camila Giorgi  The 17-year-old from Mississauga, ranked 163 in the world, needed 2 hours 2 minutes to beat the 73rd-ranked Giorgi. AlsoMonday, Francoise Abanda of Montreal fell in straight sets, to fourth-seed Julia Gorges of Germany. On the men’s side, Vasek Pospisil lost his first-round match against Switzerland’s Henri Laaksonen,  Eugenie Bouchard plays her first match of the tournament today. Milos Raonic starts Wednesday.
