NDP PUSHING FOR INCREASED ENERGY RELIEF

The NDP’s Energy Critic is pushing the province to increase emergency assistance for families trying to pay some of the highest hydro bills in Ontario. Peter Tabuns says that includes northern and rural families. He says according to the United Way, the average hydro debt in Ontario is around 700-dollars, but that number almost doubles in rural areas.  But, Tabuns says most rural families will not get the relief. The Minister of Energy, Glenn Thibeault says the government knows rural rates are an issue, and over 300-thousand families will benefit from the relief.
