ANIMALS ON THE ROAD

The MNR is asking Cochrane and Iroquois Falls commuters to be alert on our roads for wildlife incursions.  The Ministry of Natural Resources says moose are more active in fall and early winter.  The MNR says animals will often travel in groups of two or three, if you do see an animal on the road there may be more nearby.  The OPP says moose accounted for nearly 50 per cent of all collisions over the autumn months in the Northeast.  The MNR is asking drivers to be alert near creeks or rivers, in the many wooded corridors in the Northeast and especially where wildlife crossing signs are posted.  It says checking speed, flashing lights and alerting animals with short bursts of your horn are ways to give them time to get off the road.
