OPP Moves Chopper to Orillia

The OPP is moving its helicopter to Orillia from Sudbury. The OPP issued a lengthy news explaining why the decision was made. The OPP says that the relocation is an improvement for everyone. Its senior engineer is in Orillia and that means less down time for the chopper. The service goes on to say that the Sudbury helicopter has seen more service than in the south than in northern Ontario. The relocation won’t compromise safety and partners like the MNR can help with search and rescue issues. The NDP is critical of the move saying it jeopardizes search and rescues in the north.
