Nibinamick First Nation Returning To Their Homes Beginning Today

Today the Nibinamick First Nation community will slowly begin returning to their homes.

Kapuskasing CAO Guylain Baril alerted Moose news of the update early Monday morning that the forest fires in the Summer Beaver area had continued to dissipate, and so a repatriation of the community would begin.

Baril says beginning today flights will be made at 12:00pm or 1:00pm, 3:00pm and 4:30pm taking members of the community back home.

Due to this, Baril says a repatriation of the community will begin today and take place over the next few days.

He says the remaining 200 or so residents will be brought back on flights over the course of this week.

The Nibinamick First Nation community was evacuated last Saturday from the Summer Beaver area after forest fires threatened the health and well-being of the community.
